Why is Rakhi a festival

Raksha Bandhan can be traced back to ancient Hindu epics and scriptures. Draupadi and Lord Krishna, the wives of the Pandavas in the Mahabharata, are the subject of one popular legends.

It is said that Draupadi  ripped a piece of her saree and tied it around Lord Krishna’s finger to stop the bleeding when he cut his finger. One of the earliest examples of the Rakhi bond is when Krishna, moved by her concern, promised to protect her.
